Connotations Photo Exercise

 Strength 

This still image shows two different shadows of people standing next to each other. In the still image one shadow is taller than the other this could give the image an impression of strength as it gives one of the shadows a position of power. 


Poverty 


This image features an empty wallet that could give the image an impression of poverty as wallets are usually used to store money. I have also played with a low depth of field in this image to focus on the specific part of the wallet that usually holds the money to emphasise this part of the image.









Love 



In this image I have used a few elements to try and give the impression of love for example the love heart could be considered a symbol of love. I have also thought about what kind of surface to place the heart on for example the carpet could be considered warm and soft things that are also associated with love.


Fear


 


In this image I have used a very common fear to represent fear. This image shows a spider web.Spiders are a creature that  many people across the world are afraid of and gives the image a great sense of fear. 







Danger



I took this image of a crane fly not because they are dangerous but because they are considered dangerous by some people. Some people mistake these insects for mosquitoes, an insect that actually is dangerous because of this they could be used to represent danger.





Wealth



In this image I have made the main focus point the money something that can be a symbol of wealth. I have also used depth of field to blur the background and make the money the main focus point on the image to make the money seem important.

Weakness



In this image I have given the plant a sense of weakness by giving the shoe a higher up position. This gives the impression that the shoe is going to crush the plant giving it a sense of weakness.The low angle used in the image could also give the image a sense of weakness.


Loneliness





In this image I have created the feeling of loneliness by using a wide shot with a deep focus  to establish that there are no people at all in the image that could be used to represent loneliness. I have also put the bench in the centre of the image to further emphasis that there are no people.




Purity 





In this image I used a close up of a flower to represent purity as flowers are a part of nature and nature is pure. I have also used a deep depth of field to focus on the flower and make it the main subject of the image.


Greed 




In this image I have used money to represent greed. I have also placed it in the hand of the person to show it is going to be used. I have also placed it under the shadow in the hand to show that greed is not a good thing.

Primary Research Mental Health

  Primary Research Mental Health  I wanted to see if being in nature actually helped mental health to fact check for my documentary  so I asked random strangers if it did. I asked them a yes or no question that specifically states “Do you find that nature helps you mental health for example helps with stress?” I also asked these people at the location I chose to film. Which was in nature anyway so I think I was more likely to get a reliable response. Even if I did not get the results that I needed, I always had my own experiences to rely upon as this is a topic that I have looked into even before I started this documentary project. I asked 15 people and surprisingly to me 12 out of 15 people said yes it does I'm not sure whether they were completely true to their words but there's tons of other research conducted that also proves this point for example ( https://www.bbc.com/ownit/its-personal/nature-can-help-your-mental-health )
