An introduction to the news

I watched the ITV Anglia broadcast from the 16th of march. The stories seemed to be shown in order of importance, it also ended in a more positive story than most of the other stories in the programme. as it stated with a story about vaccines, covid, illegal hare coursing, Ed Sheeran's painting, a warning to gardeners, sport, people selling items online and finally the weather. In the starting sequence some sort of music that has a serious tone to it while also showing small videos of scenes from around the local Anglia region I think this is trying to tell you that you are going to see some serious and professional local news.

In this news report I am choosing to write about the story about illegal hare coursing. The story started with what they are doing then how it is dealt with and then the effects of illegal hare coursing. The report contained witnesses, the police and the local's farmers and hares affected by this. I think this news report is almost like a wanted poster trying to alert people to the presence of these criminals and their actions towards the animals they hunt and the people that are also disturbed and harmed in the local community and the police are the main people in the report trying to raise awareness about this issue that not many people know about. Since the news report was about criminals the news report is most Definity biased and trying to show the illegal hare coursing as a horrible inhumane act, and this reflected in my viewing experience as these were my exact thoughts about the illegal hare coursing after watching the report, they showed how distressed the locals' animals and how even the police are in trying to catch the criminals.

The news readers in the report were called Jonathan Wills, Becky Jago and the weather reporter were called Chris Page. The news report starts with Jonathan Wills directly addressing the viewer and welcoming them to the broadcast. This is probably done to make the news report more friendly and welcoming to the viewer and make it seem like they personally know the news reader. I think that the role of a news reader in a broadcast is to give a slight insight and introduction into the news and then leave the rest to the field reporters that give you a deeper look into that news story they can interact in person with witnesses and show envoirments to the viewer outside of the studio. The other people in the news broadcast involved the weather reporter. The interviewees and the camera crew.

Actuality footage is footage of an actual event that happened with real people and no actors, this sort of footage is used to add realism to the news report rather than solely relying on witnesses or photos. Stock footage is almost the opposite as it is fabricated footage that does use actors and is usually used to recreate an event that they were not able to record. News values are a set of values, they are used by a journalist to judge whether a news story is worth sharing in a report and how much it should be shown in the report overall Two People called Galtung and Ruge did write about these news values.  A slow news day is when a news report does not have any interesting news to report on, they still must air the news though so they just end up airing news that could be considered boring and insignificant. When you work for the news the ability to think and act quickly is very important as an important news story could just suddenly pop up and you would have to act upon it and make a report also a news story that you could be using could disappear and you would have to find a replacement to report upon. Most of the time a story with international or national importance will be most likely to show up first in a news report, this is because the story would appeal to most people. The final story in a news broadcast is usually a happy or positive story to lighten the mood after the negative news throughout the broadcast.  news ordering is the order in which you present the news storys to the viewers.
