The Pre-production process is the most important process in the making of a film it can take anywhere from a few months to years of course it depends on how long and complicated it is. A film without the pre-production process would most likely be a complete mess even if it did get away without doing any of the film planning like storyboards shortlists scripts it would never be able to release due to there being no legal documents like talent and location releases and signing for props and actors to be in the movie production insurance would also be needed to create a big budget film as a cover encase any equipment brakes or actors get injured the film would also need to comply with the (BBFC) British board of film classification. You would also need to make sure that I comply with copyright laws. If any of these legal requirements are avoided, you could be faced with endless lawsuits regarding your movie. Budgeting is also one of the most important parts of pre-production as if you work it out and you cannot afford to make the movie then there is no point in making it. example

Moving Image production

There are a few different types of moving image products for example movies, tv shows, trailers, news, and commercialsnot all of them are distributed in diverse ways though for example a movie can be distributed to cinemas and watched there but there could be commercials shown before the movie is shown. Commercials can also be shown on tv same as movies I can remember there being commercials on most DVDs before the movie would start as well. Commercials are the main source of income for most tv channels so commercials can be found all over TV even before and after things like the news. If a movie or TV show is big enough it can sometimes be secured in a distribution deal for example only being able to be watched on a certain tv channel or streaming service not being released in cinemas or other similar services for example although if it were not for covid cinemas would still be the most common distribution method for new release films. Sources of finance for films

In the UK there are a few common ways that are used to finance films for example crowd funding, lottery grants, loans, investors, Government grants, and private funding. Although the logical choice would be to try and use a combination of them all to fund a film, if possible, as relying on loans or on your own private funding is a risky idea it can go very well but also unbelievably bad.

What is funded.

A moving image product is not free the funding has to go somewhere for example you need to pay the people who are working on it for example the actors script writers you also need to pay for the equipment for filming equipment and props. that is not all any locations you are renting out or insurance for equipment or actors also needs to be paid for.

Personnel actors crew production crew that works in a moving image production

In a low budget short for example naturally there would be less people working in it for example people working on it but there are obviously some people that would have to be their depending on what kind of production it is for example actors the film crew script writers this depends on the budget of the film and how complicated it is to make although most short films do not need many people working on them. Unless it is an animation for example.

Compared to a low budget short film a television programme for example would have lots more people working on it about 100 people. as they are usually a lot more complicated and professional as for example a science fiction show would usually take longer to make than a drama for example due to the use of realistic special effects that are in these shows. It is quite like a film for example as there are many people who work on tv shows but as I mentioned before it does depend on what kind of show it is and how long each episode lasts or how many episodes but compared to a short film there would be a lot more people working on it for example the director camera man script writer makeup artist sound engineer, they could also hire people for more minor roles like advertising that is not directly involved with the making of the programme.

A Hollywood feature film usually has a huge budget compared to a tv programme or short film. This huge budget enables these companies to hire much more people than just a regular tv programme this shows as a film can have thousands of people working on it for example iron man 3 had 3310 people working on it, in total many of these could have been extras, but it is still a lot of people compared to over moviesthe jobs required in films are quite like tv programmes for example the director script writer's makeup artist sound designer would be the main people working and producing a movie there would also be the people hired in graphic design to distribute the film and advertise it.

For this project I did all the work by myself I had to do a voice over for the first time which was strange at first, but I got used to it, now I see why companies hire professional voice actors to do voice over or acting my lack of experience really showed in the final rendition.

I suppose that apart from the film crew there are quite a lot of people that work on a film for example the cast which mostly consists of the actors in the film.

Cast/other contributors

I think that people other than the crew would work on the production of a media text like a script writer, directors, set designer and the concept designers.

I think when media does not meet a certain deadline there would be punishment or penalty for the people that are working like a pay cut or certain people being fired this could delay the project or get it cancelled for example breaking the contract as a company did not meet the deadline.   I met the deadlines for most of the work but for some of my work I did not and had to catch up doing the work that I did not complete and new tasks at the same if I were working in a company, I would have a pay cut or been fired if it happens again.

Equipment/facilities

I think that the easiest way to obtain equipment for film making would to be able to rent it out from a rental company as buying the equipment for the film is usually way to expensive also you would have to have insurance on the equipment that is being used. A media facility house called the hall they offer “the full postproduction process.” Which includes “offline and online editing graphics and voiceover recording” also they offer “CAA licensed drone photography and filming I believe that the nearest media facility house to us is a company called eye film in Norwich. I already had all the equipment that I needed that film mine I had a camera and tripod to film my project.

Locations

A location recce is a type of planning that involves planning where you are going to shoot/film something it also involves doing a small evaluation of the location after you visit looking over points for example if the location is suitable for filming writing down any advantages and disadvantages the location has this can also link back to a risk assessment.

A location release is a document that gives you legal permission to be able to film on land that is not your own it has to be signed by both you and the landowner it had to have details of what you will be filming so if you damage the property in any way, so it can be proved that the landowner is not responsible.

I picked the location I chose to film at as it was the most convenient place to film my project there was a parking area, and few people visit the area, so I had little distractions it was also the best place to film my chosen subject in my local area I chose to film most of my project at a local park although I recorded the voiceover at home.

I also had a few logistical issues that I had to overcome for example the weather as I recorded all my footage outside, I had a few issues with the weather I usually would have recorded my footage when not at college but if the weather happened to be not as I planned on that day, I would have to pick a day after college for example. In the recording process I had to buy a new SD card because one of mine broke.

Materials

There are any many different types of materials that would be necessary in the making of moving image production for example the actors would need specific clothing and props. The production would also need certain items like green screens and safety equipment.

There are actually a few financial choices that need to be taken into consideration when obtaining materials for a film for example props if you are making a film where there are lots of different props you need to make sure that they would be accurate to the film that you are making for example a modern 21st century weapon prop in a world war 2 film would not make since and you would have to have the props specially designed which could cost more money and go over the set budget that films usually get.

When using certain materials in movies you must think about the legal side of it for example some props have copyright especially props from other movies for example unique props like the lightsabre from the Star Wars movies if you tried to use this in one of your movies it is quite likely that you would be sued

Copyright

Copyright is obtained automatically in the UK it ensures that nobody can steal your product or idea and if they do you would most of the time you would be able to sue them depending on how severe the infringement is you can apply for a trademark through the government's website in the UK although It even stops your work from being used overseas.

I think that copyright did affect the production of my project. For example, I had to be careful in the music that I chose for my project since it is being uploaded to YouTube, I was able to use music in the YouTube audio library which is copyright free if it is uploaded to YouTube.

Clearance can mean getting rid of something, but it can also mean being given all clear to do something.

Public liability insurance is insurance that ensures when member of the public uses a premise and if they happen to have an accident on your premises you are covered by the insurances. Completion guarantee insurance is an insurance that covers you if you happen to not complete a movie on time.

Regulation

OFCOM stands for office of communications, and it is the communications regulator in the UK this means they must regulate the media in the UK this includes services like radio, television this is done to prevent harmful content from being aired they also deal with complaints.

The BBCs independent regulator is Ofcom, and the BBC also must follow a charter that is reviewed by government every 10 years although worldwide the BBC is not affected by OFCOM.

The BBFC stands for the British board of film classification. The bbcfc is responsible for the age ratings that are given to films shown in the Uk.

Internet

In the UK Video on streaming services currently have their age ratings given me the bbfc  since my project is being uploaded to YouTube which is a streaming service my content would fall under this category Ofcom has recently been appointed to regulate harmful content on the internet so but if the content does not breach the guidelines of the website where it being posted or break Ofcom code it should be allowed to on the internet.

Trade Unions and trade association

A trade union is a group that is formed by workers the groups help protect workers' rights. They are important as they help workers to not to be unlawfully abused by the company that hires them.

PACT

This association helps to represent companies that produce independent media in the UK. They give media company's intellectual property rights.

BECTU

Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union It is a trade union just like PACT they help protect and represent workers in film from injury.

A trade association is a group that Is formed to help people in a certain profession.
